why would you want to go any further back on twitter? It's all about the real time.

Backups don't backup music, since you just use iTunes to re-sync it all back on (or iTunes in the Cloud to re-download purchased music, or iTunes Match to re-download all music).

The official My Xbox Live app has just been updated to now also act as an Xbox Companion (I think the WP7 version has had this for a while?).

You can now use it to control the Dashboard, plus it has its own Quickplay menu to launch recent apps, and you can use it to control media.

I've just had a play, using it to browse the dashboard at first, then I used its own Quickplay to launch 4oD, and then used the app to control the video.

Very nice :)

I like reading what I've missed, but I checked afterwards and I'm up to date!

Battery is pissing me off now, went to bed at midnight with 80% up at 6am and it's on 30%. No notifications either. This is getting ridiculous.

Sometimes battery weirdness can be fixed by...

- Uninstall iTunes, re-install iTunes, re-sync.

If no luck, then...

- Full Restore using iTunes.

At least, those have worked for me when my phone has started playing up. Sometimes it can be caused by a corrupted sync, IIRC.

I've never had battery problems.

The nearest thing I've had to a battery problem is how long the new iPad takes to charge, it's always an over night job... but then it's lasts forever after so not really a problem.

But for your problem, if you're on the latest software I'd say go to the Apple store, they'll sort it.

Also plugging your iOS into a PC is the worst thing you can ever do IMO now iOS5 lets you cut the cord.

That's great if everything on your iPhone or iPad was purchased from iTunes, but if you have your own media on there (e.g. you've ripped your own CDs) then you still need to sync.

Well I use spotify, I only stream to my iPad and save a few offline playlist on my iPhone. I only put films on when I'm going on holiday and then I normally just get a rental or two for the flight from iTunes on the iPad.

My iPhone is my Camera, so photostream syncs all my photos across everything else.

I could get around the music issue by switching my iPhone to use iTunes Match instead of syncing it with iTunes (I already subscribe).

One thing that IMO does still hold back totally PC-free use though is that the UK doesn't (yet) have iTunes in the Cloud for Movies.

Purchased Apps, Music, Books, TV Programmes... these can all be re-downloaded directly onto the iDevice. Movies can't, though, which sucks for Digital Downloads and actual purchases, as you *have* to still sync with iTunes to copy them over.

The US does have support for (some) Movies though in iTunes in the Cloud. Hopefully the UK will get it soon, once they sort out whatever licensing BS is holding it back.

Retina iMacs to be release before the new iPhone this year?

Your Tweet woke me up!

As I said on Twitter, I think that is BS.

That story doesn't have *any* actual sources at all. It's simply reprinting an unsourced story from Product Reviews, which MacWorld classes as "a new report suggests".

If you look at the article at Product Reviews, it has nothing to back it up at all. It's all assumption, speculation, and hope.

"it is also a sure thing for Apple users to see a new Retina iMac soon."

"It stands to reason that the next upgrade, way before we see a 6th generation iPhone, will be a Retina iMac with standard SSD and even a combo hard drive option considering it’s a desktop."

That's worse than basing an article on nothing but a "report" at DigiTimes

This seems to happen with some of these sites. Rumours reinforce rumours, with nothing to back them up. One site will print something without a decent source, a second site will re-print it, using the first site as a source, and so on.

I do think a Retina iMac will happen, but nothing I've seen anywhere else makes a decent case for it happening this year. Display yields would be a big issue, and of course cost. Once it does happen, I wonder if - initially - Apple will keep the normal iMacs, and release a Retina iMac above them (just as it has done with the MBP). Then the next year or so, when prices are better and software has caught up, drop the non-Retina altogether...

The most logical claims I've seen so far for the delay in a new iMac have been regarding GPU availability.

With the 15" MacBook Pro, Apple has switched from AMD Radeon to one of the new GeForce Kepler GPUs (the 13" and both Airs just use Ivy Bridge's onboard Intel HD graphics). So, it would make sense (you'd think) for Apple to also switch its desktop line from Radeon to GeForce.

GeForce's new Kepler architecture is apparently more of a jump (in GPU) than the CPU architecture going from Sandy Bridge to Ivy Bridge.

If Apple is switching the iMac to GeForce, the high-end mobile card that uses Kepler, the one that would be a good match for the high-end iMac, isn't going to be available until at least the end of June.

So the speculation is that Apple is waiting for that, before then spec-bumping the iMacs with Ivy Bridge, USB 3, and GeForce GPUs.
