Backing up to Iron Sky: 8/10

---------------

Prometheus (3D, cinema)

7/10.

I didn't love it, but I liked it. I don't think it's as good as Alien, but it's certainly better than Alien 3 and Resurrection.[And of Scott's own films, it's a hell of a lot better than Robin Hood]

Very interesting expansion of the universe, backstory...

Reviews are spot-on about Fassbender. Great performance, owning every scene he was in. I didn't think much of the rest of the cast, except for Elba.

Definitely think it needed to be longer. Hopefully there will be a DC at some point. I have read that there was a lot of footage that didn't make it in the the final cut...

As for the 3D... It was well done, but... I still don't give a shit about 3D. If I could go back in time by one day, I'd see it in 2D instead and save myself a few quid.

---------------

X-Men: First Class (BD)

9/10.

Brilliant stuff. Up there with X-Men 2, Spider-Man 2, and Iron Man as a "9".

Fassbender, of course, is awesome as the young Magneto.

Avatar Extended Collector's Edition - 10/10

This is actually only the third time I've seen it, but the first time I saw any form of an extended edition, of which there are two. I watched the longest version, and those extra sixteen minutes really add to what was already a great film. Again, I say, fuck 3D in its ass, this is absolutely stunning on Blu-ray, with a crystal clear picture and no silly glasses or eye-strain.

I'm tempted to finally buy that now that the price has dropped. The extended version was stuck around £20 for so long, but I've seen it in ASDA now for a tenner.

Snap. Bought it for a tenner from HMV yesterday, after waiting for almost an eternity for its price to drop.

The Expendable - 7/10

One of those films I've been trying to watch for ages but it never worked out. Does exactly what you expect. Really fun movie.

Dark Shadows 8.5 / 10

Directed by Tim Burton, starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, it was a rather enjoyable film!! Deffo worth a watch

Awesome SFX, yes, & great action near the end.

But take that away & the story etc. is rather shite. I think it would lose out a lot when not viewed in 3D on a massive screen.

Tezcatlipoca wrote:Avatar can fuck off.

So, yeah...I've just watched the Collector's Extended Cut of Avatar on Blu-ray (first time I've watched the film since the cinema, first time I've seen the long cut), and I hereby retract all previous criticism of the film

Fucking awesome. I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than when I saw it on the big screen (at which time although I loved the SFX I was very critical of the story and characters, possibly more due to the hype than the film itself).

9/10, and not just because of the SFX. Hell, I'd be tempted to maybe even give it 10/10, but that would put it level with The Usual Suspects and LA Confidential, two of my "reference 10s", and I didn't like it *that* much. Plus, no film that has a Leona Lewis song over the end credits can truly be worthy of a 10

10/10 for the picture and again for the sound. This is easily *the* best looking and best sounding Blu-ray Disc I have ever watched. Really is *the* reference disc. Stunning.

It's bloody brilliant, and the director's cut makes it pretty much perfect. None of those extra scenes are filler from what I remember, they just really flesh out the characters.

Yeah, the extra stuff definitely helped. I don't understand why it wasn't in the theatrical cut, it's not like the extended cut is *that* much longer, given the running time of the original.

Prometheus 7/10

Not a bad film, but it could have been so much more. All a bit of a letdown to be honest. :(

Cocaine Cowboys - 5/5

I purchased and watched this on a recommendation from a guy at work. Said he'd buy it off me if I didn't like it, but was convinced I would.

Amazing.

The documentary centres around the effect the expanding cocaine market had on Miami in the 70s and 80s, interviewing traffickers, enforcers and police. It's heavy stuff, lasting two hours, and is cut together at a very fast pace but... Damn... It tells a great story.

Prometheus 4/10

Thought it started off well and then towards the end it just became....dissapointing and it's not because I was expecting another aliens it was because I was expecting a better story and characters.

Mobi, I may just give that a watch. I'm not a fan of talking heads, but it certainly looks like an engaging watch. If you like documentaries, have you seen Senna? It's about the life of Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna during the late '80s and early '90s. Any interest in F1 is irrelevant, it's a wholly captivating film.

I haven't yet but really want to. Was supposed to see it when it was out in cinemas but got blown off. Usually I would have made the trip on my own but... Wait, why didn't I just go alone? :wtf:
