Absolutely brilliant.

Both from a graphical point of view and gameplay mechanics, Journey was an emotional journey that is worth taking. Even without a plot or a method of communication, through stunning artistic expression and minimalist game design, I felt compelled to keep going.

I had 6 partners along the way without knowing until I ran into them. You can't talk to them and there are no names displayed (until the end), yet when one would vanish I felt sad as we were together traversing a beautiful yet unrelenting environment that brought humility to your situation.

Ending Spoiler:
When I got near the top and froze to death, I thought that was it. I felt sadness as I watched my sherpa freeze down to a slow, pathetic crawl. Then when the sun comes out reviving you and you're flying up the rest of the mountain like an angel, it was simply beautiful.

The only other game to bring this kind of emotion through its design is Flower, which (for those who don't know) is the same studio. ThatGameCompany is an amazing studio and I'm glad they're now going multiformat so more people can play their games.

Side note: This game would be excellent on Vita, as it's only 2 hours long.

Everything I hear about this is making me want to get it. Think I'll wait until I have an evening free and play it in one sitting

It's totally a game that you should play in one sitting. I started it a few days ago but was quickly interrupted, so I started afresh today.

I bought it reluctantly bought it and found myself extremely surprised, I need to sit down and do it in one sitting but the game blew me away, although its not the longest game it is one of the more emotional games I have played in a while.

Flower (although gameplay wise is nothing like it) is the closest example to what you're going to get in regards to how it will make you feel. Flower has a demo, so that's worth a shot if you haven't played a thatgamecompany game before.

Journey blows flower out of the water if you ask me. The way Journey made me feel, was so overwhealming! I never felt that in Flower, I love flower, but Journey takes it to the next level.

I can see that, and I agree to an extent. Journey is a much more emotionally provocative game, but Flower is probably the closest relateable reaction to this, at least for me.

They're both very different and unique games in their own right.

Played this last night in one sitting. Only took me an 1h45m so I should feel ripped off considering it was £9.99 to buy but I don't at all. It was a stunning game with an amazing atmosphere. I had 8 companions along the way and it was a fantastic feeling when we were flying through the air together. Only thing was I didn't have anyone to complete the final leg of the journey with. This game is the best argument ever for gaming being art and i will play this through again

Finally got round to finishing this last night, and holy cow. I was just speechless at the end, just sat in-front of my big telly and completely enveloped by the whole experience. Nothing else compares to it.

How ThatGameCompany survived journey.

Apparently the development team really struggled to make this game. Worth a read.

Journey has won the VGA awards for: Best Independent Game, Best PS3 Game and Best Soundtrack. The soundtrack has also been nominated for a Grammy award. Whilst the game has been nominated for a lot of publications' GOTY lists.

If you've not played this yet, what is wrong with you? If you already own it, play it again.
