Got the mango update yesterday and am massively impressed. No huge individual changes but tonnes of small changes that all add up and really improve the OS. Twitter and LinkedIn integration are great but having IE9 on my phone is a joy to behold, has got to be the best browsing experience you can get on mobile phone

I still think WinMo7 has a lot of potential and if I didn't have an iPhone I would have a WinMo7 phone.

How is their app marketplace coming along? We've read horror stories of how games worth 69p on iOS is like a couple of quid on there.

Its still more expensive but I think generally prices are coming down as more games are released and user base goes up. MS definitely plays the achievements card as an excuse for their pricing. Other than that the app marketplace is definitely picking up (30,000 apps last count) and is alot slicker than say the android marketplace.

There's a phone update? I should probably plug it in

I barely use half the features in these smartphones. Apps? Meh. I got Youtube, Twitter, a couple of games and 123 London for trains. Oh, and I browse the web.

The new update is excellent, except for the screwed up podcast subscription system (it doesn't link to your Zune subscriptions and starts downloading old episodes after you've removed them).

I think the pricing issue for apps is still a problem, but it is only the Xbox Live branded games. The rest of the marketplace is still competitively priced, and the Xbox stuff is gradually getting cheaper now, with regular deals coming up on top of that.

I wouldn't switch to anything else, it's a really good platform.

I bought Implode last night (without playing the trial - never a good idea kids) and it's really, really good.

It's not as bright and colourful as Angry Birds, but I feel it has more depth as you have to control where the blocks land. Well worth £2.29 :hi5:

Its a staggered update so you should get it soon. There is a way to trick Zune to get mango early. Google it and all will be explained. Involved disconnecting your WiFi or ethernet connection after clicking on the update tab in Zune. Still discovering new features in mango, its a brilliant update. The most impressive thing though is they have squeezed yet more performance out of my phone, it is super fast now.

Yeah it is indeed great embedded video and no more red crosses where animations should be. After having mango for a few weeks now I am still discovering new things. Voice recognition has been greatly expanded now so you can ask for directions on Bing etc. Quite cool but find it odd talking to a phone rather than into it! The only thing that annoys me now with windows phone is the lack of memory expansion. I know they are trying to move everything to the cloud with 'sky drive' but the 8gb on my device is not enough.

I finally caved in. My contracts been up for awhile and I was toying with either a 4S, Galaxy Nexus or the Lumia. I've used all 3 pretty substantially at work and the Lumia won it for me. I don't use a whole heap of apps (which seems stupid as it's what I build all day) but it's just such a nice user experience.

Managed to get a 12 month contract and pay £29 for the phone so come next year, I can change if it doesn't work out.

Any idea how much it was SIM free?

The Lumia is an amazing looking phone. I've thought about swapping to it from my HTC although I am very happy with my phone and decided the expense is not worth it. Think you'll be very pleasantly surprised by windows phone. I've used all the major OS and its by far my favourite for day to day use.
