First pics of Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander in David Fincher's adaptation of the Millenium Trilogy

Personally, I think Noomi Rapace nailed it in the original films and I can't fathom that Mara can top it. I'm not too sure that Daniel Craig will suit Blomkvist. However, I can't wait to see Fincher do Played With Fire and The Hornet's Nest. Having said that, I hope every man and his dog goes to see this in December so that Fincher does that the chance to do the whole trilogy!

AND....a trailer....

That trailer has put my mind at rest somewhat.

When you hear Hollywood are doing a remake I automatically think they'll f*ck it up. Even though I like Daniel Craig, when they announced him I thought it was because they didn't want a slightly over weight middle aged man to play Blomkvist so they got James Bond in!

However, the fact they're going to keep it for mature audiences, and from the trailer, all the graphic portions that the story needs are going to be in, I'm feeling optimistic.

I think Rooney Mara looks great as Salander, and having David Fincher as director is an awesome thing.

The best part was my ears listening to the Trent Reznor/Karen O version of Immigrant Song!

I'm pretty sure it'll be an 18. The Swedish versions were surprisingly graphic with the rape so I doubt Fincher will back away. Apparently, in the auditions for Lisbeth they had to do the scene were she kicks a dildo up that guys anus. :?

I'm so looking forward to this film, I've purposely gone out of my way to not see the original despite all the hype. I find it better that way, I did it with Vanilla Sky and Insomnia and having seen both versions of each since, I'm glad I waited for the re-do.

I'll certainly go back once I've seen the English one first.

Looking at those pictures it's hard to think Emma Watson was considered for the role, but it sure would of thrown off all the Harry Potter baggage if she did get it.

I'd read the books in the meantime. The first film will be quite a close adaptation I'd imagine, but it's not really feasible to fit the 2nd and 3rd books into a film. The 3rd Swedish film is actually a bit of a trainwreck at times.

Blimey, that's some audition!

Phlash read the books, they're easy to read and will have you hooked in. You'll get through them in no time and love it.

Hmmmmmm...what do you think of this MSP?

The script, which captures the novel’s bleak tone (its original Swedish title was Men Who Hate Women), was written by Academy Award winner Steven Zaillian, who wrote Schindler’s List, and it departs rather dramatically from the book. Blomkvist is less promiscuous, Salander is more aggressive, and, most notably, the ending—the resolution of the drama—has been completely changed. This may be sacrilege to some, but Zaillian has improved on Larsson—the script’s ending is more interesting.

That to me means a bunch of purist snobs will hate the movie regardless of how good it might end up being. Whenever I hear/read that sort of news about a remake/reimagining/adaptation of something, people lose their shit.

The original film took some liberties with the source material but was just as good to me. The book has some pointless sub-plots that can easily be snipped. Changing the actual chracters though might be a different kettle of fish. If I were to change the ending for the films I would...spoilers for all 3 books have the first one end with Harriet dead. There's no real need for her to be on the board of Millenium for the second two installments. I guess they'll axe the Cecilia romance too by having Blomkvist less promiscuous..

It'll be a great film. It's Fincher, ffs! I've got TGWTDT on DVD up stairs, bought it when it was first released. Still not watched it.

I'm ok with Kalle Blomkvist being less promiscuous. He was in the Swedish film. If I remember correctly they didn't go into his relationship Erika Berger at all in that film? And all the staff at Millennium were not gone into. There isn't the time so I'm ok with changes. On the ending change, I'm not surprised because I think TGWTDT can stand alone as a book, the ending isn't really a cliff hanger in anyway, and probably the films need that.

So the trailer now has an official version, slightly edited as some of the scenes are different in it. Sony said they didn't leak the original...yeah right. Also there is the official movie poster but it's behind the link, as if it weren't for some semi transparent writing Mara Rooney would have her right boob fully on shot, Clicky CLICK CLICK HERE.

I've got the 2nd and 3rd Swedish versions on there way to me now so I'll be watching them at the weekend I hope. I'm fully hyped for this, and I don't get excited about movies. Even the poster doesn't hold back, it should be fantastic.

NSFW version of poster.

Daniel Craig -

It’s as adult as you can possibly make it. This is adult drama. I grew up, as we fucking all did, watching The Godfather and that, movies that were made for adults. And this is a $100 million R-rated movie. Nobody makes those anymore. And Fincher, he’s not holding back. They’ve given him free rein. He showed me some scenes recently, and my hand was over my mouth, going, Are you fucking serious?”

He raises his eyes, looks upward to describe what he saw in a set of Fincher’s dailies that startled him this way. You can imagine — the book contains sodomy and torture chambers and lighting people on fire. And yet, “it’s not that he simply showed me footage that was horribly graphic,” Craig says. “It was stuff that was happening, or had happened. And somehow you don’t see it.”

This is the adult thing: to not be obvious about it. “There’s more than one way to sense violence,” he says. “Much more powerful ways than seeing it step-by-step.”
