Games you always return to

I was thinking about games that no matter how often you beat, you'll come back to almost like a ritual. Do you have any?

For me, every year I play through Shenmue 1 & 2 back to back. I've beaten them 12 times now and I'm getting that itch to return to them because of the Shenmue HD collection talk. Even though it's old now, the voice acting is horrible and it has flaws, I still manage to get sucked into the world and get impressed by the art style and vision of Yu Suzuki.

The FREE world is actually a big trick, but I remember when I was a kid it blew me away and completely changed what I believed games are capable of doing in scope.

What's yours? Why?

GTA 4 for me. Myself and a few friends just hook up on free roam once a week and terrorise Vice City for a few hours.

GTA4 is another game I'll sit down and just get swallowed by once or twice a year too. Beat the main story about 6 times.

Don't really have one specific game. Quake 3 Arena, minecraft, mass effect series, Alan wake, when my dreamcast worked shenmue series and jet set radio, thief 2 the metal age and dark souls.

I have GT5, every time I play, I smile. That's the gods honest truth, GT5 is probably one of my all time favourite/most played games and it all comes down to the handling. The handling in GT5 is perfect.

Mirrors Edge is another one where I return to it and it still feels fresh. I can see Everybody's Golf on Vita being like this for me too, in 2 years time I can still see me playing a round of Golf on the Vita and being satisfied.

Knights of the old republic. Have completed it about 12 times now. It hasnt eged amazingly well but there is no star wars game that has come close to hooking me as much as that did.

Morrowind, Half Life series, Tony Hawks 2 and Deus Ex are what I always end up going back to.

Halo:Combat Evolved, Half Life 2, Unreal Tournament, Super Mario Kart, Worms

Dark Souls took the title from Demon Souls once I got my platinum.

I don't think I've completed another game anywhere near the amount of times I've completed KotOR. I just finished my first PC playthrough a few weeks ago too.

did you do all the widescreen tweaks ?

Yeah, I used loads of mods. I never do stuff that changes the core game, but I tarted up the Ebon Hawk, gave Bastila a proper dark side appearance, new lightsaber hilts and improved robes, stuff like that.
