Uplink

To those of you familiar with Darwinia, this might not be anything new, chronologically it most certainly ain't new.

Anyways, was looking through the bonus features of my Ghost in the Shell Issue 7 Series 1 Stand Alone Complex DVD & came across a game to do with the laughing man, which turns out to be a little mod of a demo of the game Uplink, from Introversion software, a small 4 man team...

Anyways, its around 2-3 years old as far as I can see, but playing the demo I'm hooked, it really is very unique & completely different to anything I'd normally play.

Basically you play as a Hacking Agent for a company, kind of a freelance hacker, & you have to basically take on jobs (any you want, its very open in this way, even if the early jobs are fairly same-old same-old), hacking into different company computers & doing naughty hacker like things. All this gets you paid by your benefactor from whom you have accepted the job, thus allowing you to upgrade your equipment & software, thus helping you hack.

Anyway, its obscenely addictive & despite being graphically simple, is extremely polished & enjoyable.

I just wanted to see if anyone has played this game, & to maybe get some people into it, as its great, I'm not sure about £25 for the full game, but the demo has me hooked & I am seriously considering it, especially as it would provide me a good little game for when I go to Japan if need be as it runs on even the most base of computers...

Although Darwinia is better. Digital crack that game.

Hmm, might have to see what xmas holds & maybe catch a copy on dl before I go to Japan...

I got Uplink a couple of years back. It's well addicting but too frustrating. No matter what I did, at one point in the game, the same point, I would always get caught, even if I was using a wireless connection that was supposed to make me untrackable. Very frustrating.

I am no good at this stuff. It seemed cool, but too much for me.

Just been playing the demo for the past hour or so... and it's quite a fun little game.

I picked it up just after it came out and played it for about 3 months non stop. Loved it, very well made for an Indy release and well worth the purchase

Had this for a long time - very very good little game! Although, as mentioned above, the game does seem to have a few bugs where you will be caught regardless of your setup.

Great game, kept me hooked for months. Does get kinda boring when you have all the best equipment and have had enough practice to do any of the jobs without hassle though.

Think I bought my copy for £10 about a year ago.

This recently appeared in the Humble Bundle. It's now available for the iPad and Android tablets (not phones, the screens are too small) and though I know there are a few here who have already played this, to anyone who hasn't, it's fucking fantastic! Addictive as fuck!

They even did a trailer a couple of months ago for the iPad launch.



I've been playing it on my Nexus 7. It really is a superb example of a game for tablets, despite its age.

I remember playing the demo waaaay back in the day and not really getting it. It always stuck in my mind though, so would be interesting to give it a proper go.

You should, it's outrageously addictive. I've been disavowed three times, when that happens it's game over, and you HAVE to start again. But I keep doing it. I know where I was going wrong now - top tip: always delete/edit the log files after a successful hack, even if that means hacking back in to a system just to do the edit.
