Anyone catch the truly ABYSMAL debate show on BBC Three last night, "Free Speech" ?

Adam Deacon on the panel, along with the Editor of FRONT, a Conservative MP and... some girl.

I don't care about your political leaning, on the "issues" brought up the Conservative woman was the ONLY ONE to speak any kind of sense. You can probably imagine what Adam Deacon said because he's a total prick and a walking stereotype.

I only mention this because every one of "DA' YOUF!" cried out about how DA' GOVERNMENT should butt-out of the rest of the worlds problems and focus on DA' SHIT ON OUR STREETZ, MANG! Yet the exact same demographic of people is sharing this campaign on the social networks, asking what DA' GOVERNMENT is going to do about it.

Doomed.

She was the only one to actually listen to what was being asked and give a considered, thoughtful response... problem was that she shared the panel with Adam Deacon.



That's our Bafta "Rising Star" award winner, 2012. I suppose there's some happiness to be had from the knowledge that whilst he currently "speaks for the youth of London" he's got about as much acting range as... Well... He has no range. So he'll remain in low budget, gritty, wannabe mobster movies set in Hackney. Or perhaps movies where he cleans up... only to have his Hackney past catch up with him! FFS.

DOOMED.

EDIT - Although I should say that for every tweet claiming that "ADAM DEACON IS SO REAL!" or claiming that "ADAM DEACON IS GOING IN!" there were also a handful of tweets from "young people" in East London who claimed to be embarrassed by his pathetic ranting and his representation of them. I suppose it's just a case of the smart ones being drowned out by the droves of utter shitheads.

What pisses me off about him is that he's a walking contradiction. He's become the unofficial spokesperson for people he no longer shares anything with. Adam Deacon is a successful actor. He has money. But unlike, say, Noel Clarke, with whom he has shared the screen, he doesn't actually do anything with his success.

If it's so shit being "on the streets" of Hackney, and the youth all want out of the gangs, crime etc, why is he still pretending to be lord of the manor despite having a path out? He's saying "you can be successful like me" and perpetuating this myth that he's still ghetto. Unlike Clarke who, despite playing up to a simular archetype in much of his acting/writing/directing, holds himself with some decorum.

I'm all for staying close to your roots, but that doesn't mean you should remain a shithead because you come from shitheads. Humble beginnings and all that.

This is his generalisation, not mine. He paints a sterotypical picture of broken homes, fathers abandoning their children, and mis-guided youth inescapably driven into criminality. It's also a place where everyone apparently has a chip on their shoulder.

Yet he, unlike others cut from the exact same cloth, seems to revel in it. He claims that the kids want out, has himself a way out, and seems to ignore it. He won the "Rising Star" award. Heck, Noel Clarke won that same award a few years back and is currently shooting Star Trek 2 under the direction of JJ Abrams. He had a fairly successful run on Dr Who when that was brought back to life by the BBC. Adam Deacon seems predisposed to not achieve any of this on the principle that he wouldn't be "street" any more.

I should probably channel my dislike for Deacon into something positive. I just wish he'd be pulled from the limelight before he destroys what little dignity Hackneyians have left in the media.
