Gay Marrige

Postby Phlashman on Sat Sep 17, 2011 10:08 pm

So, anyone going to get their knickers in a twist over this?

http://goo.gl/JuA4z

In the US it's a huge thing, but I'd imagine over here it'll pass without much of a thought, if anything I'm surprised they say it'll take to 2015.

TBH I'm pretty anti-marriage anyway (not that people shouldn't) but I really don't see the point, but hey if you want to, go for it. I'm about to be the best man at my brother wedding next weekend and it all seems like a lot of fuss.

But looking forward to some jesus types on the TV trying to come up with an excuse why the Gays can't get married.

There's some Arch-Bishop up here saying that the Church shouldn't support the SNP if they are pro-Gay marriage.

Nobody else gives a shit. If people want to get married, go nuts. I don't think marriage should involve the Government personally, but I don't mind when people want to hook up.

You may have seen this, but it's pretty much correct. Why would I or anyone have a problem with someone else getting married? It's like complaining about interracial marriages! Completely inappropriate and irrelevant.

BECAUSE MARRIAGE IS BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMAN - GOD WILL DESTROY ANY SOCIETY THAT DOESN'T ADHERE TO THIS RULE!!

Seriously, I've seen people say this as a legitimate reason.

Couldn't care less and the success rate is bound to be just as bad as hetro marriages if not worse.
but.....

If marriage is a religious 'thing' and that religions txt says it wrong then surely they can't over rule that.

Marriage is not a religious thing. It used to be a tribal thing and now it's a legal thing today.

Religion just promotes it and holds the monopoly on it.

Ya' know what I find really daft? When couples get married in a church, by a priest, in the eyes of God... but aren't believers in God.

It's the same with Christening. I went to one last summer... the parents do not believe in God. Yet they had their daughter baptised in Jesus water, in the eyes of God. We all stood there, singing hymns. Well, I didn't. I just stood there. But still. WTF?

I've been invited to a wedding next summer, same deal, big church affair. Neither of these two are Christian, neither of them is a church goer. Heck, these people have their demons. They should probably burst into flames if they set foot on consecrated ground!

People take what they want.
I heard many people tell me they HAD to appear at at least 1 or 2 church services before the church would allow them to get married.
I preffer to keep my penis in my pants and stay away from any women business.

You're right, Harry. I believe you have to meet the Vicker a few times beforehand. Fake your belief.

Mental isn't it.

But lets be clear, I am a massive hypocrite and would marry the love of my life in a church if that's what she wanted. I would voice my opinion, but do it anyway

Marriage isn't just a religious thing though.

Mrs Tez and I got married in a Register Office, in a completely un-religious civil wedding ceremony, as neither of us believes in God. Register Office weddings are legally forbidden from containing *any* religious content at all, no songs, readings, anything.

As for religions saying about homosexuality being wrong... Well, religious texts say a lot of things...

Dear Doctor Laura (President Bartlet used a variation of that in an episode of The West Wing).

Yup. Mrs Tez's brother had a church wedding earlier in the year. Neither he nor his wife is religious, they did it for her family I think. One of Mrs Tez's friends had a church wedding a couple of years ago. Not at all religious, just thought that a church wedding would be "nicer" than a Register Office wedding. That same friend later had a proper church Christening for her baby. Again, not because she or her husband is religious (they're not), but because it's "nice" or some other nonsense.

Whenever I go to a church wedding or Christening etc., I just keep quiet while the rest sing their hymns and shit.

It's a status thing. My bro got married at really nice hotel venue, but there was talk of a christening for my nephew; my sister-in-law wanted just for the status thing again, my bro isn't religious at all. But that lead to talk of me as godfather. I told my bro that it's no-go if they do. To become a godparent you have to say things like "I give in to god" and "I accept god's will" ... never will those words come out of my mouth.
