Maybe I am being a bit ambitious, I don't know much about this sort of thing and you obviously know far more than me, but I'm one of the lucky few who does NOTHING in the way of fitness yet still manages to be in great shape and really fit. I guess I just want to see how far I can push myself in a very short time to see what I am capable of. People don't believe me when I say I don't work out so I would like to see the results of when I do!

As you're lean you're going to have to eat more calories and plenty of protein (and water) to build muscle.

It's almost impossible to build muscle without putting on a bit of fat. That's why serious body builders 'bulk' during the winter and then 'cut' coming into the warmer part of the year.
This has the benefit of hiding weight put on with clothes in the colder times and looking good in summer gear.

Myself, I kinda go in the middle. Never putting too much fat on but in turn not achieving a totally ripped look. Suits me as I then don't have to be too strict with my diet.

My tip is to use a weight you can just about do 6-8 reps with. This'll build you up without a doubt. It's hard work though.

How much weight do you have to be able to lift before you can Pug Smash people?

Also, do we need a license?

What do you reckon is the best routine for bulking up? I've been doing a 5 day split recently:

Monday - chest
Tuesday - Back
Wednesday - Legs
Thursday - Shoulders
Friday - Arms
Weekends - 30 pints and 2 kebabs.

It's just that i've seemed to have plateaued in certain exercises like BP. I'm keeping to low reps (6-10 x 3 sets) at maximum weight to failure and im doing various exercises e.g. on chest day I’m doing flat bench press, inclined dumbell press, decline bench press, dumbell flys then finishing with push-ups to failure. I always get DOMS from chest day, so the only thing i can think of is nutrition and the routine. I've just increased to 3 protein (2 of them now with creatine) shakes a day. 1 in the morning, 1 before bed and 1 straight after the workout whilst keeping a generally balanced diet. Do you think 7 days between workouts on the same muscle group is too long?

You'll get results but slowly.

My main routine (works all muscle groups) is the same three days a week, the days inbetween I use the Irongym for pull-ups/chin-ups and push-ups and maybe a few arm curls.

Also no need to over do the protein. One after a workout and one before bed on non workout days will suffice.

Pugs right re protein, whey after workout casein protein before bed. Also mix up doing heavy stuff with lighter weights and higher reps, try pyramid sets, drop sets, tri sets etc, the reason you've plateued is because your muscles have got used to what your chucking at them, they need to get shocked again!!!!! Personally I'm not in to bulking any more, more a lean look i'm going for now!!!
Also get your diet right, by all means have a blowout at the weekend but 30 pints???!!!! i hope you were joking mate!

remember to get best results is 70% diet 30% training, you can't succeed by only getting one right!!!

Cheers guys, I'll have a tinkle with the routine. Think i'll get one of them irongyms. I currently have one of the screw out pull up bars but im struggling lifting my own body weight. I can only get about 6 reps with chin ups and about 3 with pull ups. I suppose ill get better once my back/ arms/ shoulders get stronger and I shift some fat.

I'll not over-do the protein. One of the guys I work with has failed his drug test the last 3 times due having really high protein levels in his urine. He has 5 protein shakes a day with various other supplements along with god knows how many tins of tuna and chicken breasts. But then again he's a tool and calls himself 'The Ox'!

The beers a slight over exaggeration, generally If im out friday and saturday i could easilly have 20pints. But weekends are for treats :D

Get some bands to help you with the chin ups, as for your guy at work he's an idiot, tell him to enjoy his mercury poisoning

Cancelled my membership at work. That's £12 extra beer money a month!

Wasn't worth the pennies I was putting into it, wasn't going enough. I was going to go on Tuesday but after arriving at my desk at 7:50am... I ended up missing my lunch break because we're just too busy... I worked through until 5:15pm. I only left my desk to go for a piss and get cups of water.

I could not stomach going anywhere but out the door!

I should cancel my LoveFilm membership too, I'm wasting that.
