I'd still pirate Photoshop even if it was only £5 a month.

Photoshop and piracy...

Postby Brocktas on Mon Apr 23, 2012 3:35 pm

So Adobe is going to offer CS6 as a cloud subscription service, but at $50 a month (£31p/m) for a single licence, I can't see it making a dent in the piracy issue; at least on the consumer side.

It will be offering the software as individual options, and seeing as how Photoshop is the one that everyone wants, I'm curious to see how cheap it would have to be for you to consider not pirating it like almost everyone does before the pricing comes out. It's mainly so we can compare how much Adobe's prices align with the reality of the marketplace.

How much would you be willing to pay a month for Photoshop as a cloud service?

I would gladly pay £15 a month but that is only if It's a good service has a trial period and I get full access to all the features. £50 a month would only be if it was their whole suite of software

Photoshop is great, there are other good editors out there (like the pixelmator) which is really what consumers should be using, but Photoshop is the best professional grade image editor there is. End of.

The rest of Creative Suite can go suck it for all I care, only illustrator might get some use for messing up some PDFs. Dreamweaver is a crime against humanity, flash is out of date, AIR is way too bloated to be usable for anything that requires performance...

This doesn't really work out as a deal though does it? Maybe if you're upgrading to the new version of CS every year, but only very slightly.

mmm... don't really see the point in this.

Professionals don't use photoshop or any adobe software anymore really.

Outdated, resource hungry and too expensive.

Depends on the industry. The media does, but mainly because InDesign is still an industry standard. That and the alternative (Quark) still hasn't caught up with it to become a viable alternative again.

I'd completely disagree for my industry. I've worked for digital agencies for ages and Photoshop is the standard when it comes to assets. As a developer, I generally only accept PSD files when people provides any form of images.
There's other tools for things like wireframes and mockups.

A basic (ish) text editor, UltraEdit. I hand code everything I do. It's the only way to have complete control over what you're doing.

So is there a minimum term for contact of is iton a monthly basis until you stop?
I want to, and have started to produce a video for one of my songs using after effects.

So I'd delicately be up for a small fee for a month.

I've not used PS for a while now since my last license expired - just no need for it any more in my line of work. Pixel based image editing is becoming obsolete for the sort of web work I do.
Sure, there's still uses but not enough to warrant the ridiculous license costs. I don't even miss it for doing mock ups any more, it just doesn't make sense these days.

Yeah I agree with that. HTML5/CSS3 has really cut down on my use of Photoshop, just use it for photos and logos now which really I could use any editor for, it's just that I have Photoshop on my work machine (it's CS4).

On a relatedish matter. Has anyone else seen the new Coda 2 (for Mac) and a Diet Coda (for iPad) apps?

http://www.panic.com/coda/

Looks like a coders dream app. Just need to get a mac as my main work PC.

Also Diet Coda is a genius app name.

I got Photoshop with a drawing pad.

:hi5:

But I don't use it as much as I used to. And I never understood why a Photoshop license cost so much. Subscription would be alright, so long as they kept it readily updated with features.
