I use Ubuntu linux because it isn't a resource hog, it's free, has great integration with social networking sites with it's built in app, it's very secure and since it's linux I don't need anti virus but I do use the UFW firewall frontend which configs the already existing firewall to be a bit more secure.
Sometimes you do come across lack of support with drivers but in general they are few and far between now from my experience.
I use to love windows but stability, security and the need for anti virus, spyware detectors and the lot got on my nerves. I only really use the partition for games I know I can't get working on Wine.

I'm genuinely interested as I would prefer to use Linux as it is free and open source, thus meaning that using Linux would support my beliefs, but for day to day stuff, Windows has greater compatability with needed products.
Now that I have been provided with a work laptop, I am tempted to use Unbuntu as most of my home computing does not require many programs, but my last memory of installing Ubuntu is of not being able to find a driver for my built in webcam, nor trackpad! Most frustrating. Is Ubuntu still considered the most user friendly for newbies?

Ubuntu offer a great version that you can install from within windows, try it, if you don't like it go to add/remove programs and uninstall it, it's that simple.
I'd put it above osx by some distance and just slightly behind windows 7 and before anyone starts I use all 3 on a day to day basis for work.
Teknylate.com and Insideris.com have reported that with the next versions of Microsoft’s PC operating system, Windows 8, will include the function to allow users to play Xbox 360 games on their PC’s.
Microsoft did start off the Xbox 360’s life with no backwards compatibility and no promise in the future. Fast forward and you see Microsoft not only allowed original Xbox discs to be played in the system, but started hosting the best of the library as downloadable titles.
