Want, yes. Need, no. I still haven't looked at one but avoiding it is getting harder and harder. My brother and 2 friends have one now :(

I really regret showing Mrs Tez how to AirPlay her music to my amp and big fat speakers via the Apple TV, as I've just come home to the sound of the "Sister Act" musical's soundtrack blaring out of my Tannoy speakers :x

Agh

All the various tech sites and Apple/Mac sites have run with that today, all based upon that one guy's comment. He does apparently have a good track record for this stuff.

I suppose the comments could be regarding an actual re-design (e.g. Retina), and that there could still be a spec. bump this year, but...I dunno.

I certainly won't wait any longer than Mountain Lion, just in case, but I'm really getting tempted to just go "fuck it" and buy one now.

I've been thinking about it and I'd wait until Mountain Lion hits, it's only next month. It's strange that they didn't bump the specs at WWDC, but Ivy bridge chips have had supply issue and maybe they wanted to make sure they had enough for the macbooks, seeing as they are by far their biggest seller. If they are going to bump the specs on the iMacs it makes sense to do it before Mountain Lion, even more so given the impending windows 8 Ivy Bridge PCs.

I really was actually all set to just go "fuck it" and buy one now

But it does make sense to wait for ML. As you say, it'll only be another month or so (no actual date yet, but it is now officially "July" instead of "late summer").

That will definitely be my deadline, though, otherwise I'll never get one. "Oh, I'll wait for autumn...I'll wait for the new year... I'll wait for the spring..."

Oh, and it seems that Apple has realised that perhaps it is a bit of a stretch to give the Mac Pro the same "New" label as the MacBooks currently have on the online store - it's now quietly been dropped

Maybe someone at Apple has seen all the anger across the web from current Mac Pro owners (far more angry than people who've been waiting for an iMac! Just check out Macrumors...)

So now there are claims that that NYT guy's story isn't quite as clear as it should be...

Apple Says New Models, Designs for iMac, Mac Pro In Works, Due in 2013 (Update)

Forbes wrote:Updates to add email from Apple CEO Tim Cook to a customer re: Mac Pro. Also Apple corrects to say desktop updates for 2013 applies only to Mac Pro and not iMac.

Apple said today that it is working on new models and designs for its Mac Pro desktop that will be released in 2013.

The company confirmed a New York Times report, citing an unnamed Apple executive yesterday, that new desktops are in play.

(snip)

...Cook doesn’t mention the iMac, and Pogue’s reference to an update to the iMac in 2013 is incorrect, Apple said (which probably means that you can expect an iMac update sooner. The iMac, Apple’s all-in-one-desktop originally introduced in 1998, was last refreshed in May 2011.)

I set up email on my phone for 5 minutes the other day, and now my battery life runs out super fast. I turned it off after literally 5 minutes and now my battery will last less than 2 hours when I'm not even using it. Went to bed last night with it on 40% battery, airplane mode and wifi off and by the time I woke up, about 6 hours later it was dead.

Wtf is going on?? I had this problem before but it just rectified itself. Also I don't have a backup of my phone on this computer to restore it to, but if I back it up now and restore it straight away, would that help?

What sort of email do you have POP or IMAP or Exchange? If it's checking for POP mail loads and loads and receiving loads of junk then yeah, your battery will go fast.

What I do is use gmail as my email hub. I let that check all my other email address and then sync with gmail using exchange. That way I get push notifications on email only once it's passed gmails spam filters, and then it only sends the headers until I open the email app and then it downloads the rest of the message. There's extra advantages in that it means everything is synced across all my devices and if I've got no devices on me at all I can just use gmail.com

I think it's POP (not 100% - it's Hotmail so..?) sure but it was only on for about 5 minutes while I sent one from my phone to my work email then I turned it off on the settings. The backup/restore seems to have worked, I won't really notice until later. Annoying thing is I lost all my music and my twitter only goes back 24 hours! :(
