They had to make cuts somewhere. I just finished watching it, and have to be honest, I thought Fincher did superbly. It was brilliantly shot, and excellently edited. Mara was exceptional (I found that scene uncomfortable to watch). I knew they changed the ending, but I didn't know what that change was until now; it's a change for the better. I haven't seen the original Swedish adaptation, and am not sure I want to now.
Oh and, I've never been a fan of Trent Reznor, but he excelled himself with the music in this.
